Zaid doubles hands Ba 24th IDC crown Zaid doubles hands Ba 24th IDC crown Abu Zahid handed Ba it's 24th edition of Inter District Championship title with a goal in each half against Nadi at Govind Park.

The striker ended the 'Men in Blacks' two year anaemic season and sent fervent local fans on a celebration frenzy.

Nadi had no answer to counter Ba's attacking prowess and failed to fully utilise strikers Napolioni Qasevakatini and Samuela Drudru.

Ba defenders Alvin Singh, Josefata Neibuli, Laisenia Raura and Remuere Tekiata had the Nadi attackers well-marked.

Zahid broke the deadlock in the 21st minute as he finished off a well-timed cross from Ronil Kumar and cheekily beat Nadi keeper Vereti Dickson.

Having a slender 1-0 lead at the break, Zahid combined well with skipper Avinesh Waran Suwamy to produce another magical moment for Ba. Suwamy received the ball 10 metres inside his half and a smart pass on the line for the flying Zahid, who then kicked the ball backward to Suwamy.

As the defenders swamped over Suwamy he neatly placed the ball between two defenders for Zahid who was looming on the far left to beat Dickson taking his team to a 2-0 lead.

Elated with his performance, Zahid said he wanted to prove his worth after being written off by some fans.

"I am so emotional to help Ba win a tournament after two long years," said Zahid.

"Many people have lost faith in me because of injury but I wanted to show them that I still have what it takes to help Ba win.

"I dedicate this win to all the Ba fans and to my fellow teammates."

Captain Avinesh Waran Suwamy said the win was special and commended his troops for their commitment. He said the one-month preparation has paid off and dedicated the victory to their fans.

Ba secretary Iliaz Khan also echoed similar sentiments thanking the boys for their achievement.

"We have waited for this moment for two years and I am glad the boys delivered in style to win the IDC," he said.

"This win has stamped Ba's dominance again and I thank all those that have been supporting us throughout."

Nadi coach Kamal Swammy said his players failed to follow the game plan set out for them and congratulated Ba for the victory.
