Chauhan scoops Sportsman Award

Navua Masters Pramod Chauhan (R) Navua Masters Pramod Chauhan (R) Sportsone announced its Sportsman of the Year during the live Top 100 Countdown of 2015 show on Radio S1 Dhamaka last night.


Parmod Chauhan won the award, while Fijian Soccer League of Greater Vancouver’s Pacific Cup saga made the top local Newsmaker of the Year.

The awards, formerly chosen by Sportsone journalists, were voted on by the public.

Chauhan became the first Masters Division soccer player to have won the prestigious award since its inception in 2012, premier league soccer and rugby players have won it in the past.

He is a member of Navua Masters quadruple league winning team that maintained an unblemished 48 month winning record.

The midfielder has been dubbed as a role model athlete by his teammates and as acclaimed by the public with votes.

This year’s other nominees were Flagstaff FC duel Javid Khan and Nicholas Naidu.

In the Top Newsmaker of the Year category (local) Fijian Soccer League of Greater Vancouver’s abrupt withdrawal from the 2015 Pacific Cup tournament was voted as the Top Newsmaker of the Year, while Fiji 7s side’s 2014/2015 HSBC 7s World Series win made the Top Newsmaker of the Year (Fiji).

The win was countries 2nd title only in 16 years’ for the flying Fijians under new coach Ben Ryan. The 7s team won 4 out of the 9 tournaments in the series and qualified as the number 1 team for the Rio Olympic Games to be held in Brazil in 2016.
