Eric Hurtado scored the 53rd-minute goal that gave head coach Carl Robinson his third play-offs in the four seasons he has been with the team.

The win at Children's Mercy Park also tarnished Sporting KC's MLS home unbeaten run at 24 matches. The win extends Whitecaps lead in the Western Conference with just three remaining matches.

The Whitecaps will host San Jose Earthquakes on October 15th as its last home game before heading into the playoffs.

Were excited to take Vancouver into the playoffs, but we know that there is still plenty of work to be done, said Whitecaps FC president Bob Lenarduzzi.

We have a team with grit and character that this city can really get behind and be proud of, and were going to need everyone behind us to make this season something special.
