Lautoka irate over lack of respect

Local Sports

Lautoka 045 irate Lautoka 045 irate LAUTOKA O45 has vented displeasure at the Fijian Soccer League for scheduling the Sunday fixture that falls on Muslim religious observance day.

A district insider who wishes to remain unnamed says their postponement requisition for the weekend game against Viti club was agreed upon at the outset but was later turned down.

“We were seeking a postponement as majority of the players on the team are Muslims and will be celebrating the Eid-ul Adha”, the insider said.

Eid-ul Adha, the Muslim "Festival of the Sacrifice", is the second of two Islamic festival celebrated worldwide each year, and considered the holier of the two, the other being Eid- ul Fitr.

“We sent in our requisition some two weeks on”.

The insider said Viti club had agreed to have the game rescheduled and played within the two-week period as outlined in the policies.

“We contacted Viti club, who agreed the game be rescheduled, the league was advised”.

The league in an email message writes, that under Policy 12(d), it doesn’t allow any games to be postponed.

But in the very email it said, “In the past league allowed teams with good courtesy for two teams to agree and play on their own time, provided there was no threat of fixing the game”.

Lautoka who share the lead with Tavua on the leaders’ board with 22 points will thwart top finish and the league title as they’ve decided to observe their religious festival, the Eid -ul Adha.

“We will not play, it’s not all about football, that’s clear.

“It is morally, ethically and religiously wrong”.

It’s clear why the cartoon character of the league didn’t allow for postponement as he wants Tavua to win the league! What else one expects from someone who has failed the league.
