Kalione Nasoko scored a brace of tries, while Vatemo Ravouvou, Jerry Tuwai, Josua Vakurunabbili, Eroni Sau and debutant Uluiyata Batinisavu added a try each to their name.

Ravouvou and Amenini Nasilasila converted for the win.

Coach Gareth Baber was ecstatic about the win, said they had expected a win against Spain and that the boys played well.

“We stuck to the game plan”, he said. “There are no injuries, captain Jerry Tuiwai was rested after the half. We saved him for the next game”.

HSCB World Rugby Sevens Series commentator and former England captain Rob Vickerman in an earlier interview predicted England to retain the Vancouver Sevens.

A confident Baber said Fiji will win the Vancouver 7s.

“Rob Vickerman has his opinion but I’m confident we will win the Vancouver Sevens”.

Fiji will play Kenya in its second game at 2.08 pm.
