Sevens exponent Waisale Serevi gifted the jersey from his private collection to the organizers of the event.

Anil Goundar, a fervent rugby fan paid $1550 for the memorabilia.

The Fiji 7s fan said he didn’t give a second thought on bidding the jersey, added the money raised was for a worthy cause.

“It’s not all about the money”, said Goundar, a trucker, who works for Ace Courier. “It’s about helping the dire needy in Fiji”.

“I must thank Waisale Serevi for being generous enough to donate a rugby jersey from his private collection for Fiji flood fundraiser, who suffered extensive damages in the aftermath of the back to back Tropical Cyclones, Josie and Keni earlier this month”.

Goundar said there was other items that were auctioned off but the rugby jersey drew huge attraction.

Serevi, the most decorated sevens player on the planet, said he was overwhelmed with the generosity of the public who continue to give back to the roots especially during the difficult times.

“We must all step forward and help our people in Fiji”, he said.

“Thousands have been displaced, lives lost, and people need help to build back up and continue on with their lives. The jersey is a just small contribution.

“I applaud the Fiji Disaster Relief Society for the fundraiser”.

Many other private, religious and cultural organizations are vigorously raising funds for the Fiji flood victims.
