Pacific Cup is a shot: Ram

Local Sports

Atama Ram believes the Fijian Soccer League’s Pacific Cup fundraising campaign is pointless.

The former defender, tough-guy of the 90s told Sportsone the whole tour idea is a shot.

“Without significant public support and funding, it’s a pointless campaign to participate in the Pacific Cup in November”, said Ram.

He said there’s a cloud of doubt over the ethics of the decision and the wisdom of playing the tournament that is a standard beyond and one that the local side is not yet ready to take part.

''The Pacific Cup tournament is a heavy investment deal and one that I feel will not come around.

"FSLGV has been very careful with its giving. Less giving and sour grapes more so and here the donors must be mindful of the fact that it’s the very same governance that found it a problem handing out.

"Now I’m hearing of monetary help in the way of fundraising. It’s not what’s good for the goose is always good for the gander”.

Ram says the public have the opportunity now to make the best of a bad situation by returning the favour of the flawed decision.

The FSLGV has a good seven months to raise the necessary funds for the November tourney and Ram is hard-pressed the team will ever leave the Canadian shores.
