He said Fiji played its usual game and used its opportunity to beat Honduras.

"Fiji certainly proved critics wrong", said Ifraz. "Who would've predicted the win".

Rubbing salt into Honduran wounds was the own goal, with defender Kevin Alvarez deflecting the ball in after Atonio Tuivuna had climbed highest to win a Fiji corner.

The Central Americans were evidently stunned and, while they pushed forward for the remainder of the game, it was with some ease that Fiji held them at bay.

A rare sight was that Fiji goalkeeper Misiwani Nairube was an impenetrable barrier, the keeper produced outstanding saves to deny near Honduren goal.

Fiji stands a genuine chance to reach the round of 16.
