Canada prepares for PMs visit

Fijian Prime Minister Voreqe BainimaramaFijian Prime Minister Voreqe BainimaramaA huge preparation is in the works in Surrey to welcome Fijian Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama next month.


The leader of the FijiFirst party will be the honorary guest during the Fiji Day Celebrations event which will coincide with the 2015 Inter District Championship at Surrey's Newton Athletic Park.

Chairman and the founder of FDC, Dr Netani Gucake confirmed prime ministers' private visit to Canada.

"The PM will be our chief guest for the FDC and the IDC in August”, he said.

"This will be an unofficial visit but the Canadian civic, provincial and federal members of parliament and local MLA will be on hand to meet the prime minister.

 

"Prime minister will also meet Vancouver and Surrey Chamber of Commerce".


Gucake said this will be a historic event in many ways as this is the first visit from a sitting prime minister ever to Canada.

He said huge preparations are under way to welcome the man who is widely seen as the liberator.

"PM has a huge following in Vancouver and among Fijians Canada wide. He is seen as a hero in Fiji and abroad".

"Fijians have embraced Mr Bainimarama wherever he has set his foot and now it's our opportunity to welcome the affable home ", said Gucake.

Gucake said First Lady will also accompany the prime minister who will be in the country for 6 days (4-9) of August.

PM Bainimarama will attend a Fijian business form and will tour the Provincial legislature of British Columbia in Victoria.

His travel itinerary also includes attending private functions on the lower-mainland.
