Evans blasts IDC rule change

Soccer great Ivor EvansSoccer great Ivor EvansIvor Evans has lambasted the Fijian Soccer Leagues' decision to include out of province teams for 2015 Inter District Championship.

The Nations Cup team coach says the league endorsed amendments to the IDC policy is a step in the wrong direction.

He said the big ticket tournament should've remained status quo.

The change on the behest of a few must be condemned he added.

"There is absolutely no reason to include Seattle Ba and Calgary Tavua for the IDC ,'' he said

Evans, who was approached by the league to weigh in his views, said he made his intentions clear by rejecting the idea from the very get go.

"Treasurer Rosie Gopal, President Nadraj Nair and secretary asked as to how I felt about the idea. I told them I'm against the change.

"I don't know how the FSLGV convinced the IDC delegates for the inclusion", Evans said. "It must have been some sell".

The former Vancouver Whitecaps says he's been reliably informed that the FSLGV arbitrarily made decision months ahead and used the IDC delegates meeting as a rubber stamp for a shady unanimous vote.

"I'm disappointed at whole process and the fact the guest teams have been given preferential treatment by way of revised polices that would work to their advantage.

"Our players have to follow the rules while the invitees are exempted on playerís qualifications.

Evans said the FSLGV should consider renaming the tournament as the Fiji Day Celebrations Cup instead of the IDC as the purpose of the historic event is already defeated.
