Fijian Prime Minister Voreqe BainimaramaFijian Prime Minister Voreqe BainimaramaThe Fijian Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama will be the chief guest during the closing ceremonies of the 2015 Inter District Championship in Surrey next month.

Bainimarama accepted the invitation on the behest of the Fiji Day Celebrations Chairman Dr. Netani Gucake.

Fijian Soccer League of Greater Vancouver president Nadraj Nair said the prime ministers presence will be a joyous occasion for the fraternity, its fans and the teams that will be participating in the tournament.

Nair said Prime Minister Bainimarama’s visit is historic as no other sitting Prime Minister has ever been to Canada let alone been a chief guest for the closing ceremonies for the local IDC outside of Fiji.

"We look forward to having the Prime Minister officially close the 2015 Inter District Championship,” said Nair.

"The Prime Minister is a distinguished and inspiring representative for former countrymen here, at home and at the world stage".

"It is an honor for us to have the Fijian Prime Minister for the event," he said.

The two day high energy churning tournament will be played at Surrey's Newton Athletic Park.

Seven Premier and eight Masters’ teams will participate in the two divisions.

Seattle Ba, a team coached by former Ba and national team player Aquila Rova has also been included for this year’s championship.

Defending champions Nasinu, Seattle Ba, Suva and Naitasiri make up Pool A.  Ba, Rewa, Nadi and Calgary are drawn in Pool B.
