Nadi game at IDC was fixed: Khan

Local Sports

Nadi president Umar Khan Nadi president Umar Khan Nadi Football Association of Vancouver, president Omar Khan believes Nadi's 3-0 loss to Suva was fixed, and has called on FFA to examine match-fixing at the IDC.

Khan joined thousands to ask the governing body to investigate, and said there is enough evidence to support that great team like Nadi got sold-out to Suva to eliminate Lautoka from booking a semi-final berth.

"Nadi refused to give their all during the 3-0 loss”, he said.

“The commentators calls aside, the video and the very own district fans expressed their outrage at the team for taking the sport to whole new low.

Suva was not an equal competitor, having under-performed against Lautoka and Dreketi”.

Khan, who has been the most successful Fijian football president on the lower mainland and under whose leadership the district has won 6 IDC championships in the last 7 years (2007-2013) says there is every reason to believe the Nadi Football Association misrepresented the stature and its loyalist world over.

"Sadly, we share the disillusion of having to call attention to the poor showing by our former district in the IDC.

The decisions were deliberate and motivated by an intention to thwart Lautoka a place in the semi-final," Khan said.

"It is our perception that this match was fixed”.

"These occurrences will continue unless FFA hear the concern and collaborate on a formal and thorough investigation into the circumstances that surrounds the match”.

Khan calls on Lautoka Football Association to also support the call for necessary probe.

"The investigation should be done for the good of football and for the good of FFA”, said Khan.

Khan said Nadi’s action gives the FFA ‘Fair Play’ a whole new meaning.
