Nadi mours loss of great fan Nadi mours loss of great fan Afzal Khan, one of the Nadi football's most famous fans, was laid to rest yesterday.

Khan, known as 'Maxi', was also FANCA Canada's huge supporter.

The 53 year old, Surrey resident passed away on Saturday after a short illness.

Khan was a regular sight during the districts fixtures stretching over 3 decades.

He also gained popularity for his unorthodox style of support during the FANCA Muslim World Cup tournament in Nadi, Fiji in 2012.

The soccer fans would most remember him for riding a Canadian flag draped horse, a rare sight in Fiji, he made his daily entry laps at Prince Charles Park and showed his unwavering support to the Canadian side.

Subarmani Reddy 'Boale', the former Nadi footballing icon paid his tribute by making a calculated statement.

He said football has lost a sincere fan who loved the sport.

"I would be lying if I said he was just a fan", Reddy said. "Maxi was the fan".

Reddy says he doesn't remember not seeing Maxi during Nadi's games in his 30 year playing career.†

"He was a dedicated fan. I can't think of anyone else who had so much district love and patriotism".

Reddy said the affable vivaciously called everyone 'bhaiyo' and itís this that separated him the most with other Ďlime churningí fans.

I am so sorry to hear about the demise of Maxi.
I have known him for more that 35 years.
