Let's not talk about the weather - Ryan

Fiji under the weatherFiji under the weatherWith tucks and mittens, the Vodafone Fiji 7s team certainly appeared under the Vancouver weather during their first Vancouver training on Wednesday.

But head coach Ben Ryan was quick to play it down by saying, "we’re not here to talk about the weather".

And while Vancouver has been experiencing heavy rains for the past few days and the outdoors trainings have been under wet and cold conditions, Ryan said their focus was on the tournament ahead.

“We’re here to prepare a team for the fifth stop of the IRB Vancouver Sevens”, he said.

“Coming off the Las Vegas win, we need to maintain the lead on the leaders’ board. We can't rest on our laurels".

The triumphant Las Vegas Sevens side took to turf at the infamous Empire Stadium, the very field Brazilian football icon Edson Arantes do Nascimento ‘Pele’ once tore up field with the New York Cosmos of the North American Soccer League in his prime playing days.

The hour and half light training run was in many ways pinned down on tactical and technical lace.

Ryan admitted that two of his key players are under observations for sustaining injuries during the Las Vegas Sevens last week.

“Vatemo Ravouvou and Amenoni Nasilasila are day to day. We will assess their prognosis and make a decision on whether to start them or not”.

Both the players rested while the rest of the team broke sweat during a scrimmage match in clear view of the New Zealand and the Samoa teams.

Fiji is pooled with Samoa, Portugal and Kenya in the two day tournament.
