The next big one, Kitione TaligaThe next big one, Kitione TaligaIvor Evans knows his rugby as much as the game that made him the first Fijian to be inducted into soccer's Hall of Fame in Canada.

Arguably the best out of Fiji to grace the pitch during his 11 year hiatus with the Vancouver Whitecaps Football Club, the wizard can easily identify a gifted player in either sport when he sees one.

The leading light of Fiji's two most recent legs, Las Vegas and† Vancouver Sevens, the country has tapped in a star, Kitione Taliga as the heir apparent to the throne vacated by Hall of Fame and sevens legend Waisale Serevi.

The soccer exponent told Sportsone he thinks Taliga has what it takes to become Fiji's talisman with a little more exposure under him.

"I liked Kitione a lot. He is the next big thing to me," Ivor said with authority. "He was introduced in Las Vegas and did he ever step into stardom helping Fiji marshal a sevens grandeur comeback to beat Australia 21-15 for the championship.

Ivor said it was like he (Kitione Taliga) was waiting for that break and when opportunity beaconed, he took it with open arms and proved it.

"This kid didn't rest on the laurels after the Las Vegas Sevens but took his A - plus game to Vancouver Sevens. He really turned heads and fans enjoyed his foresight and pure resilience". †

Ivor said the Dratabu, Villager reminded him of Waisale Serevi), the built, skills and vision is what have me make the stardom call.

"William Ryder was ready to fill in that Serevi shoes but he took a pass for whatever reasons, and now the ball is in Taliga's reach. All he needs is to maintain the work ethics and reach for stars".

"Physically, it would not be that hard to fill Sereviís shoes. His is not a big. But the 22-year-old has the qualities to replicate the great one".

Taliga won the HSBC Vancouver Sevens Impact Player award. The Vodafone Fiji 7s team will defend the Cathay Pacific HSBC Hong Kong Sevens at the So Ko Pon Stadium on the weekend.
