Nadi win Knockout Championship

2016 Knockout Champions, Nadi2016 Knockout Champions, NadiRonald Chaudhary inspired Nadi Masters to a shootout Knockout Championship victory over Samabula FC today.

 

The former Fijian national team midfielder scored a timely penalty kick to tie the game 2-2 after Samabula’s Edwin Ruth had handled the ball in the penalty box late in the second half.

 

Edwin who had scored his side's opening goal was sent off for the infringement. Teammate Sudesh Kumar scored the other regulation time goal for Samabula.

 

Chaudhary unearthed every bit of the green at the North Surrey Oval there on, commandeering Nadi’s play, the brave heart didn't disappoint the second time from spot-kick, he calmly tucked in his masterpiece.


The veteran was ably supported by Iyer Arun, the silky player who turned heads during the weekend long tournament.

After playing to a stalemate, the winner was decided on penalty kicks.

Nadi successfully converted 4 goals to Samabula’s 2.

Ecstatic Nadi Masters president Mun Reddy praised his side for the hard-earned victory.

Reddy said his players displayed a lot character and the testament of it all is before them.

“I’m happy for the boys”, said Reddy. “Everyone played for each other. Down 2 goals and to come from behind to tie game and win the championship could only be summed up as remarkable”.

The title gives Nadi players and fans something to cheer about after their back-to back (2014-2015) final losses to Navua.

 

In the Premier final Real Tanoa FC beat Civic FC 3-1 to win the championship.
