The 2-1 win didn’t only put the smiles on the faces of the district loyalists, but gave Afzal Khan (Maxi) the single biggest district footballing fan, who passed away last year and whom the district had dedicated the tournament an eternal celebration.

Krishna, the former Nadi district representative delivered the worthy strike just seconds before the end of the second extra spell and prevented the game from going to the shoot-out.

His timely hit poured the fans on the field as the referee signaled the end of the match.

Midfield exponent Javid Khan had put his side ahead with a nifty strike in the second half after both the teams were tied 0-0 after the first half.

Rewa pulled one back on a spectacular Dillon free-kick that zapped Nadi keeper Zahid Janif, who made the district return after a decade.

Seattle based former Fiji national team striker Kamal Hassan was ineffective for Rewa as he was heavily marked.

Nadi Football Association president Omar Khan was a happy man at the conclusion of the final.

“It was an exciting final”, said Khan. “Football concluded with a tense final and a dramatic denouement”.

Khan said Nadi had a balanced team and his players performed exceptionally well.

“The young and the season veterans all came up big for the two day soccer fiesta. The entire core, players and the management deserve the plaudits for becoming the 2016 IDC champions”.

Khan said it was nice of the district to dedicate the championship to Afzal Khan (Maxi).

Rewa manager Alfaz Ali told Sportsone that he was happy with the way his team played throughout the tournament.

“I’m happy that we made it to the final and that against a quality team like Nadi", Ali said. " It was no easy game. Our players gave it all”.

Rewa’s 32 year wait for its second IDC championship has only been prolonged, the side won the inaugural championship in 1984.
