Local Sports

Back to 5 teamIDCBack to 5 teamIDCFIVE premier districts will participate during the 2017 Inter district Championship with top four qualifying for the semifinals on Sunday.

Fijian Soccer League of Greater Vancouver president Nadraj Nair confirmed to Sportsone today.

Nair said defending champions Nadi, last years' finalist Rewa, Suva, Nasinu and Ba have declared their participation.

"We now have five premier teams for the IDC ", said Nair.

"I've talked to Ba and they will bring a team, Suva is also on".

Nair said they've left the registration open until tomorrow (Friday) for the weekend tournament.

He said with just five teams, each team will play two games with top four making it to the semi-finals on Sunday.

Earlier in the week former footballers, fans and officials blew steam at the Fijian Soccer League of Greater Vancouver after learning about the lack of interest shown by other premier districts.

The three team IDC is what had irked the sports fervent.

Many vented their displeasure and called on the FSLGV to cancel the tournament altogether.

The original draw had Nadi, Rewa, Suva, Nasinu, and Ba, but in a separate post on Sunday, August 6th, Nadi, Rewa and Nasinu had been drawn for a round robin games.

Sportsone had been reliably informed by a league insider that Suva, Rewa and Ba had pulled out of the tournament at the outset but had been talked into coming back to raise the profile of the IDC.

The IDC will be played at the Newton Athletic Park on the weekend.
