Fiji 7s pesky little man, Jerry Tuiwai considered by many as the best player and did he ever live up to the billing when the stakes were so high against New Zealand.
The captain cheated tackles and scored the game winning try in the cup-quarter final at the Sam Boyd Stadium.
Tuiwai crossed the line after the full-time siren had sounded, Fiji had been trailing at that point but won the game 14-10.
Coach Gareth Baber was happy with the pure resilience of the Fijian players, said the boys didn’t give up the fight until the last play.
“We didn’t get everything right and there was a lot of physicality in the game”, he said.
“But we took the opportunity to capitalize and the game”.
Fiji’s play-maker Vatemo Ravouvou scored the first try, he later converted.
Vilimoni Koroi and Sione Molina scored for New Zealand.
Fiji will meet hosts USA in the cup-semifinal tomorrow.
