Sir Alex Ferguson taunted his City rivals claiming it will take them “a hundred years” to challenge Manchester United’s record-breaking achievements.
With City crowned champions Saturday, Ferguson insisted they are still way behind United in the record books having just won only their third title.
“They can go on as much as they like,” he said. “That’s what you would expect, but the history of our club stands us aside.
“We don’t need to worry about that. I think we have a rich history, better than anyone, and it will take them a century to get to our level of history.”
Sergio Aguero’s 94th-minute injury-time winner will go down in City folklore but, for Ferguson, this was real heartache as his side blew an eight-point lead they had six weeks ago.
“I think we have a rich history, better then anyone.”
He said: “It is a cruel way to lose it and we are all disappointed. But for us it’s still a challenge and we’re good at challenges.
“We’ll kick on from here. I have experienced many ups and downs in 26 years. I have won it three times on the last day and nearly did it here.
“It is a fantastic achievement by our neighbours as it is the hardest league to win in the world and anyone who wins it, deserves it.”
Ferguson says his younger players will only learn from losing out on goal difference. “There will be times when we can sit back and say we did this wrong, we did that wrong, but 89 points would have won the league in most seasons.
“The younger players will remember today because sometimes a bad experience is even better for you. When you’ve got a certain character and a good purpose about you, then you shouldn’t fear the future and I don’t think these lads will.
“The experience they have gone through will hold them in good stead. At the start of the season I said 82 points would probably win the league and we are seven points ahead of that. But it doesn’t matter, we’ve lost it.
“We knew there was five minutes injury-time at City as one of the assistants informed us.
“They got a break and won the game. It can happen. Maybe QPR going down to 10 men had something to do with it, as that is a long time to hold on.”
