Samoa stuns Fiji, qualifies for 2013 JWC

Photo Credit: Fiji LivePhoto Credit: Fiji LiveSamoa bounced back in style to upset Fiji 29-20 in the 9th place semifinal of the 2012 Junior Rugby World Cup in South Africa this morning and book its spot in the 2013 edition of the tournament.

 

Samoa will now play Scotland in the 9th place playoff.

 

Fiji after the loss is now in danger of relegation and is in a must win situation against Italy who they will face in the 11th place playoff on Friday.

 

Baby Flying Fijians captain Matayavusa Lea and coach Sale Sorovaki spoke to IRB Media after the match and this is what they had to say:

 

Lea: "We bounced back today, but it was disappointing. We have to try our best in the last elimination game next Friday."

 

Sorovaki: "We are disappointed, but we still have another shot to try and stay in this competition on Friday. Congratulations to Samoa for playing well and coming back at us in the second game. I think we did not underestimate Samoa.

 

We really tried hard and it was not our day. We want to finish off on a win and today was one of those, chances where we had an opportunity and we did not use it. We look forward to the next game on Friday."

 

Meanwhile, four time champions New Zealand outplayed top ranked Wales 30-6 in its semfinal clash this morning to secure their spot in the final against host South Africa who defeated Argentina 35-3 in the first semifinal.

 

Ireland defeated England 27-12 to book a place against France in the 5th place playoff . The French pipped Australia 19-17.

 

Australia and England will now battle in the Seventh place playoff.
