A VETERAN footballer has raised serious health concerns about the FANCA Legends schedules for the FANCA Silver Jubilee Nations Tournament in Fiji next month.
Abdul Zahid says the people behind the schedules failed to recognize the oppressive temperatures, as majority of the matches will be played in the sweltering temperatures.
“Majority of the legend’s games are between 11:30-4:00, which is when the temperature soars to its highest.”
“It could pose danger to those with underlying health conditions.
“Keep in mind the dangers of dehydration and heat stroke.”
Zahid said the young and physically fit find it hard to cope with the heat, let alone the 50 plus footballers, who would struggle.
He said countries like Australia and New Zealand are in the middle of Winter, and Canada has just come off one of harsh Winter conditions on record, and with that teams would find the Western heart unbearable.
“All the legends games should have been scheduled for early morning or during nights.
“40 minutes as that's the duration of the games, in the mornings and nights would not have hurt, what would, the midday soaring temperature, fatigue to injuries.”
Zahid said on a close look at the schedules, he finds only three games scheduled in the mornings, one in the night, and ten at the height of scorching heat.
“Legends deserve better time slot.”
