NEW ZEALAND'S’s Highbrook Maathar Sangam netball team beat Victoria 20-9 to win the TIV Sangam Women’s netball championship last weekend.
Head coach Ash Naidu said the players showed resilience by playing through torrid temperatures.
“We had a good strategy in place, to cope up with the scorching heat and it helped."
Naidu said the team showed up game in and out to beat teams despite having less preparation time.
“Far and few days for preparation, because of the players busy schedules, but it all comes down to the true test of character."
“It’s a great feeling to have won the first championship in Fiji, a first in the TIV Sangam tournament.
“We couldn’t be any happier, together we did it."
Naidu said Highbrook Maathar Sangam has made good friendships during the tournament, one they will savour for years.
“We built good relationships. Created memories,” she said.
Naidu paid gratitude to president Urmila Devi and manager Vimal Mudaliar for working tirelessly to have the team participate in Fiji.
“We couldn’t have done it without the unerring support of Devi and Vimal, they made sure everything was provided to the girls."
