The 'Razor' hopes to fight in Canada soonFiji’s new boxing hero Junior ‘The Razor’ Farzan Ali is keen to fight in Canada.

The nippy 31-year-old is Fiji’s best pound-for-pound fighter in the lightweight division and holds the World Boxing Foundation (WBF) intercontinental title.

He has an impressive record of 26 wins, two draws and five losses from 33 fights.  The last time he dropped a fight was back in 2004.

In Fiji, ‘The Razor’ is a crowd favourite and also a champion in seven weight divisions from bantamweight to welterweight. During his latest fight last week, the hard hitting orthodox fighter was at his deadly best and demolished Navosa strongman Aisea Neiti with a seventh round knockout at Prince Charles Park in Nadi.

“Canada has some famous boxers and they’re very close to America where boxing is very big so it will be a good opportunity for me to show my skills there,” said Ali.

“My dream is to win a world title for my country. Having a fight in Canada will open new windows for Fiji boxers because at the moment, we only get to fight in Australia, New Zealand and Japan.”

A Vancouver-based Fiji businessman and boxing fanatic is looking at promoting ‘The Razor’ in Canada, however, no major decision has been made yet.

After living in the shadows of his elder brother and Fiji’s undisputed middleweight champion Joy ‘The Jet’ Ali for almost 10 years, ‘The Razor’ has finally risen to the top. Many in the local boxing circle feel he is the next big thing especially with Joy, 32, bagging a mixed set of results since last year.

‘The Razor’ was at his deadly best against Neiti. His remarkable improvement, skills, class and power punches continue to amaze fans in every promotion.

“I’ve been working very hard to improve my game. It was an important fight because I was defending the welterweight title for the first time. Neiti is a strong boxer so I had to keep changing styles,” he said.

“It was a good fight. I had a plan not to rush it. I waited for a knockout and took my time. I’m happy, I managed to jab a lot,” he said.
