Samoa capitan Faalemisa SeleseleSamoa capitan Faalemisa SeleseleBitter disappointment, is how fans described their feeling after Vodafone Fiji 7s 29-26 loss to Samoa in Paris Sevens earlier today.

Fiji, with some of the brightest stars failed to live up to the billing as the best team on the day.

Fijians this website spoke to say Fiji made way too many errors, admitting the grand finale loss is a wake-up call for coach Ben Ryan to carefully re-evaluate each and every player on his’ deck’ ahead of Rio Olympics selection.

Surrey's Pita Simon expressed his displeasure at the team for slacking –off in the all crucial second half, one that Samoa dominated with all their mighty.

“Fiji made too many mistakes, some of them were unforced made by the very guys who play top level rugby in France”, he said.

“While the team looked all too fleshy from the very get go of the Paris Sevens, the championship is never won on the first two days of the tournament.

“The Cup Quarter final against Australia is when there were visible signs that the team is beatable. And in the final it all came around as the boys caved in from Samoan’s well coordinated play”.

Soccer great Ivor Evans, who is a huge Fiji 7s fan holds similar views.

“I think Fiji lost the plot after the break and Samoa played with lot of heart. They wanted it more and certainly deserve the Paris Sevens championship”, he said.

Evans said the notion that Ben’s wholesome change in the second half didn’t help the team is simply preposterous.

“Most of the guys who were on the pitch in the second half had won the Hong Kong 7s, so that argument is refutable".

The former Vancouver Whitecaps sensation says regardless of the loss, Fiji will not be an easy beat in the Rio Olympics.

“Fiji lost the Paris Sevens but that doesn’t suggest Fiji will not retain the World Rugby Sevens Series in London next week and will not win the Gold in Rio. I’m pretty confident they will win it all”, Evans said.
