Rewa sign USA duo for IDC

USA based Kamal HassanUSA based Kamal HassanRewa has today confirmed signing veteran striker Kamal Hassan and youngster Rajal Goundar for this weekend's Inter District Championship.

Manager Alfaz Ali said the Seattle based former national team player and Rajal will join the team on Saturday ahead of their opening fixture against defending champions Suva.

Ali says Kamal, who rose to stardom in Fiji, represented both Rewa and Lautoka before immigrating to USA, agreed to drape for Rewa at no cost.

“Kamal and I have a long standing friendship", said Ali. "I approached Kamal to play for us after FSLGV made exceptions allowed two out of province players and he (Kamal) got youngster Rajal to join him".

Ali, who is also a member of the team, said he is looking forward to teaming up with his former Rewa teammate in almost a decade.

“I guess the outside player provision works out good for us, as we will get one last opportunity to play together”.

The buddies are said to be the only two over the top aged players among a whole host of youngsters named for this weekend’s tourney.

“I guess it all comes down to one last rush and hopefully we win it all and call it a quits in Vancouver together.

“That would be some farewell for both of us”, Ali quipped.

Ali said Rewa would try to end its 32 year winless drought by stalking a legitimate claim on the 2016 IDC.

The district last won the IDC in 1984 under the now defunct Fiji Football Association. Rewa opens its campaign against defending champions Suva at noon on Saturday.
