Navua, Tanoa win Knockout titles

TFC retain Knockout title: File picTFC retain Knockout title: File picNavua Masters continue its dominance in local football as they won the Knockout Championship with a 4-0 demolition of Samabula FC at the Newton Athletic Park.

 

The championship synonymous side entered the tournament as favorites, outwitting and outplaying teams to win its third title, 2014-2015 being the back to back wins.

 

Navua has been Fijian soccer's success story for winning five consecutive Masters League titles (2012-2016) and on the back of the latest win the team is destined to win its sixth league title.

The team showed its true mettle over the weekend and while the saying' is, stars win headlines, Navua's team effort win them championships.

Diminutive forward Patrick Junior scored the opening goal, teammate George Lapa extended the lead for a 2-0 first half lead.

Junior doubled his tally in the second half while Jordon Mason put the final nail on Samabula's coffin for the convincing victory for the celebrations.

Meanwhile, Tanoa FC retained the Premier Knockout championship on a lone goal from Kam Hundle.

TFC beat Flying Arrows 1-0 in the final.

Manager Praveen Adrakar couldn't have been any happier at the conclusion of the game.

He looked skyward and thanked God for the championship, added his players showed true character during the weekend long tournament.

"Every single player deserves the plaudits", he said.

"I must also thank my coach, the management and the fans for believing in TFC".

Adrakar said the team will now direct its focus towards winning the 2016 Premier League.
