Naidu scoops Masters MVP award

And some 19 -years on, the 44-year old Vineshwar Naidu still has the same passion and recently the age defying Ba Masters player was named league’s Most Valuable Player for 2017.

"It was fun back in the days to walk, hike and run to bazaar matches to play the game you love", he said.

"Local competitions is where I honed my soccer skills".

Naidu, who had a short stint with Ba district team in 97, said what started off in Ba continues to this day.

"It feels good to represent your district. It is every footballer’s dream to drape in the famous Ba jersey.

"I was blessed to have played a few games for Ba before I came to Canada. And I continue to play for Ba in Canada”, said the former Nailaga Interga player.

He said it came as no surprise when he was approached to join Ba Masters some 4 years ago.

“Timely call and I can say for certain that I made a hearty decision. I’m enjoying the company of the team.

“I’m ever thankful to my teammates for helping me win the Most Valuable Player Award”.

Naidu said Ba Masters stellar season culminated with double victories,the league and the Inter District Championship titles.

He said it was achieved through the hard-work and the commitment of the players and the management.

“Ahead of the 2017 season we signed Ronald Chaudhary, Riggs Kumar, Jas Singh and Sal Mudaliar”.

The quartet, he added contributed immensely towards the success of the team.

“We only lost one game all season and that was 0-3 against Samabula FC”.

Naidu said he owes his Ba (Fiji) debut to late former Ba and Fiji soccer stalwart Farouk Janeman, who coerced him to join Ba team.

"I must say I'm glad for the opportunity that was presented to me to play for Ba in Fiji and in Canada".
