Fiji Sports Commission gives FANCA go ahead to host tournamentFiji Sports Commission gives FANCA go ahead to host tournamentTHE Fiji Sports Commission has advised the FANCA Muslim Sports to go ahead with the FANCA Champions League.

FANCA Muslim Sports sought the commission’s clarification after learning that the Fiji Muslim Sports Association in an email to its branches threatened to suspend players that participated in the non-sanctioned tournaments.

"Fiji Muslims Sports Association would like to remind that all Fiji Muslim league Branches and members of Fiji Muslim League are not to take part in any religious tournaments that are not sanctioned by the Fiji Muslim Sports Association, Fiji Muslim League and Fiji Football Association or FANCA federation.

“Any members taking part in any such tournaments will face disciplinary actions as per 10.3 of the Fiji Muslim Sports Association tournament rules, regulations and by laws.”

The commission says the warning is an internal matter within the Fiji Muslim Sports Association, league branches and members of the Fiji Muslim League and has nothing to do with FANCA Muslim Sports.

“FANCA Muslim Sports is registered with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, it does not fall under a religious tournament and does not need to be sanctioned by the Fiji Muslim Sports Association, Fiji Muslim League and the Fiji Football Association,” the statement said.

FANCA Muslim Sports CEO Moshin Nabi lauded the commission’s decision, adding they are corroborating with the commission and the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

“We are absolutely delighted to have been given the assurance that the three body organizations have no powers to suspend any athlete, team or player from participating in the FMS tournament,” said Nabi.

He says the commission holds strong views against threats, intimidation and suspensions.

“No repercussions.”

The FANCA Champions League will be played between 27-29 of this month at Nadi’s Prince Charles Park.
