LONG before sharing a passion for football commentary, Nadeem Mohammed and Riten Gosai were in a teacher-student relationship.
A learning environment that earned them fruition in the ever growing media industry.
And two decades on, the pair, arguably the most lauded football broadcast duo in the game shared Mai TV set as commentators, the game they had a fixation on growing up.
“I was a student at Mulo Mulo Secondary School, it was 2003, Nadeem was my teacher”, Riten said.
“It is all about a clock and time, how true?.”
Nadeem had been in the media business since 2005, juggling airtime with different networks, but recent trade with Mai-TV’s online streaming had a familiar guest.
“Riten was my student in 2003, and here in 2024, we’re commentators.”
Nadeem traversed into broadcasting through early animation, from treetop pretending to be an actual game, he admitted.
“I’d commentate to build confidence while my brothers and cousins played ball.”
Riten's foot in the business will have 'us grow', said Nadeem.
The globe trotting Riten said he always found joy in broadcasting, who had his moments in Vancouver, Canada.
During the University of Hawaii break, he would spend time with S1Sports, hosted a rated weekly sports talk back show and pulled Canada Sevens.
His in-depth analysis and opinions drew insurmountable praise.
The show garnered huge ratings.
For being ingenious, his best quote, ‘call a spade a spade’, is an epitome of clear conscience.
Riten featured in a Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) documentary on Fiji men’s sevens, highlighting its rich history ahead of the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics.
A feat he says he’s proud of.
Riten joined Mai TV during last month’s Battle of the Giants football tournament on a good word.
“I can’t thank Mai TV enough for believing in me, good times ahead.”
“It’s all about words, back in a cubicle learning a thing or two together this time.”
Nadeem and Riten will bring the historic FIFA International A friendlies, Tri Nation series game against Hong Kong China from Churchill Park in Lautoka today.
