Inspiring boxer Joseph NarayanInspiring boxer Joseph NarayanJOSEPH Narayan whose video appeal to help him take up boxing as a sport has touched a boxing insider's nerve.

Narayan idolized the late Ubayd Haider, and lived a lifelong dream of becoming a boxer.

And following Ubayd’s death, the young Nadroga farmer didn’t hold back from making his intentions clear.

“Help me, I want to take up boxing,” Narayan earlier said.

Narayan’s post went viral around social media last week seeking help, while many conveyed good wishes, some even offered help.

On Friday, his story touched Krishna Sami, who offered conditional help provided he rode patience.

A meeting was arranged in Lautoka the next day, which Narayan described as a ‘step in the right direction.'

“I got a call from a man, who introduced himself as someone who works with boxers and promoters and was interested in getting to know me,” said Narayan.

"My heart skipped a few beats, I dropped all farming chores and headed on a long bus ride for Lautoka City.

“The best ride of my life, to say the least.”

Narayan said the hour-long get together and the fact he was asked to glove up for a sparring session was an approval enough for good things to come.

“I'm really glad with you and your performance son, yes it's coming soon,” Krishna said.

Narayan, a vegetable farmer, got inspired by one time Fiji’s best pound per pound boxer Zulfikar ‘Joy’ Ali, while still at school, and following his passing he looked up to Ubayd Haider who he idolized.

“I’m heartbroken, Ubayd was called to eternal life at his prime, someone who represented the country with all his heart."

Narayan said he just wants to step in the ring for Ubayd, the departed soul.

“Pray for Ubayd and wish me luck,” said Narayan.
