A HUGE party atmosphere kicked off a 3-day Fiji Day Celebrations in Surrey last night.
The festival is to celebrate the country’s 51st birthday.
Fiji became independent on the 10th of October 1970, relinquishing British sovereignty.
On the very day in 1874, King Seru Epenisa Cakabou ceded the country to United Kingdom.
Pastor Netani Gucake, the guest of honor said the diversity of Fijians is a fundamental characteristic of the heritage and identity.
“We continue to hold our values, promote equality, respect others cultures”.
The preceding days will be entertainment filled, with live music from Canadian Fijian performers.
The party patrons could also treat themselves into mouth savoring Fijian food, sweets and enjoy the country’s national drink, Kava.
The family friendly activities are hosted by Fiji Village Club on Scott Road.
