With the widespread power outages brought by severe winds the men cued in the old fashion celebration ideas.

“The party was at a community hall but we couldn’t gain entry to the facility because of electric doors,” said former Fiji Police officer Umesh Chand.

It was then the group made a decision to shift to a friend’s house in the same block.

Chand said the relocation got them a place but the lights.

“It is when the homeowner, a former colleague, decided to use as many as four industrial flashlights.”

“It lit up the house clear as daylight.

“It was a party on,” said Chand.

With fun and entertainment, the night wasn't complete without skits, as a few former lawmen had completely forgotten about the power outage.

After a few basins of kava (grog) and cold beverages some got worked up.

“One suggested the food warmer be turned on," recalled Chand.

“A ranking officer asked if his beverages be placed in the fridge, another called all lights in the house be lit."

Chand said the officers were reminded of the make do situation and that they just had to ride out a few hours and call it a ‘grand party’.

“We need to cut back on our liquid intake next time, we’ll get it,” said Chand. “2024 goes into history.”

The EFPA is planning to hold a bigger get-together in the Spring of 2025.
