FOOTBALL and rugby teams that had their weekend games in Lautoka and Nadi need to become health conscious and considerate.
And besides, Rewa football team that turned proactive immediately by calling its players to isolate, and yesterday, the top down of the association went for coronavirus tests at Nuffied Health Centre in Tamavua, Lautoka, Ba and Nadroga and rugby teams Naitasiri and Nadi must do the same.
The premier footballing districts, Rewa, Lautoka, Ba and Nadroga featured in the Digicel Premier League double header at Lautoka’s Churchill Park on Sunday.
And on Saturday Nadi played Naitasiri in their Farebrother Sullivan Trophy challenge match at Prince Charles Park, in Nadi.
The two venues fell under the latest Covid 19 case hotspot after a 53-year-old woman who was in close contact with a soldier who contracted the virus at a quarantine facility in Nadi.
The woman went to a funeral in Tavakubu, Lautoka, her travel itinerary and the timeline, between Nadi and Lautoka contacts with people during and after the funeral is described as a ‘Super Spread’ event.
What else is worthy suggestion in the good interest of the public is that Lautoka, Ba, Nadroga, Nadi and Naitasiri consider having their players and management take tests for coronavirus.
And out of precautionary measures, all the home fans of the two venues, including those who traveled from outside Ba, Nadroga and Naitasiri self-isolate, and or even get tested, from further community transmission.
The virus spreads rapidly, from an infected person to others through respiratory droplets and aerosols (smaller droplets) created when an infected person.
Team athletes, like football and rugby have a greater chance of transmission as they are closely embodied, and it just takes one player and or management to test positive and the entire roster will become carries of coronavirus.
For the sports to resume under a safe environment, athletes need to own up the responsibility and be considerate to others health and wellbeing.
