Samoa's winger Samoa Toloa though, drew first blood with his try, Fiji pulled it back through captain Osea Kolinisau.

The two team were locked at 5-5 at the break.

Kalioni Nasoko then powered his way to score in the second half, Vatemo Ravouvou converted to give Fiji a 12-5 lead.

The lead was cut short as Tila Mealoi scored, he converted his own try, both teams drew level at 12-12.

Setareki Bituniyata extended Fiji's lead to 19-12.

And it was Waisea Nacuqu who put his body on line to avert the likelihood a Samoa try.

Fiji lost its last pool game to a determined Argentina 26-24.

Fiji will meet Australia in the Cup Quarters at 12:14pm.
