THERE are Fiji rugby sevens fans and there is Sharlin Ugra.

Ugra, known as the ‘roti girl’, knows her rugby, follows the team, and keeps close contact with the players.

“My husband, John Prasad is the one who got me to follow the sport,” she said.

“Now I can’t let go of it.”

It was during the San Diego Sevens in 2007 that Ugra got her first glimpse of the sport, and she instantly fell in love with it.

She said rugby sevens is fast and keeps the adrenalin rush going.

“The inaugural HSBC SVNS Canada Sevens in 2016, is the best thing that happened for Canadian rugby fans.”

And in the last 10 years, Ugra has come to know the players and has formed a strong bond with them and their families.

Ugra said during Canada Sevens, the players often put in a ‘roti’ parcel request.

“Players just love it. It just took a dozen or so servings and has become very popular.

“And it’s all about delicacy.”

Ugra said she hadn’t missed a year not providing the players their hot treats.

“Win or lose, the players will be treated to their delicious food before they return home.

“Roti with canned fish or potatoes.

“It is an absolute pleasure to feed our players.”

Ugra says Fijian fans should appreciate what the players do for a small country like Fiji, who make Fijians proud.
