Ba name Rewa’s Singh as new coach

RODRICK Singh was named as the coach for the Ba football team, replacing Ronil Kumar.

Singh, the former Rewa mentor leaves the team to transform the one-time championship-synonymous district of Fiji.

Work cut-out

Singh will need to make do with players, as the team has been in an uncharted field when it comes to marquees, unless new signings are made during the transfer window.

Ba has been depth shy, lacks quality and leadership skills.

Singh will need to put his tatical and technical acumen to restore the lost glory.

Financially starved

There have also been reports that the district has been facing financial challenges and it has resulted in players making their intentions known regarding their contributions to the team.

If Singh, who enjoyed the luxury of quality footballers’ demand strengthening the team with new signings, payment could thwart potential aquisition.

And everyone from Ba, including those who live overseas seems to know it all, often falling back on history to make a case of the district’s success story yet wouldn’t put their last dime to help resurrect the district in time of need.

Rewa’s success on development

Rewa’s success wasn’t so much about coaching—it never was.

If anything, it was due to years of good development, turning ordinary to quality ballers, unity in the ranks, and the top-down leadership that solidified them to win football games in competitions.

And need not mention Labasa, who with full of desire under a first-year coach Alvin Chand, won the Fiji FACT championship.

The Lions picked up its Inter District Championship form to replicate its latest spoil.

For both Rewa and Labasa have a good set of players who with or without a coach would play for one another and as a team to win games to championships.

With Ba, it is anything but.

Ba plagued over control

Ba has been plagued, with dissidents, loyals and neutrals struggling to hold on power.

For the the district that was once all about ‘power of love’ turned ‘love for power’ and its glaring infiltration has given them a bad reputation.

Interim has become potent, the district changes its management more than any other team in the country.

But let’s be honest Ba, you have failed to understand that as a district, you lags in training and development of footballers and tops the power struggle that so averts progression.

The analogy a chain is only as strong as its weakest link.

Now, that statement makes sense in Ba’s case.

Strong leadership

Rewa, under the leadership of President Nazeel Buksh, success follows strong footing.

And any new appointment will only do good for the district as they have capable footballers who will continue on with their fine performance to win games.

Now with Singh and Ba, are they ready to shrug off the pretender tag and become a serious contender to what competition may offer?

Or fall like others before him by faceing the revolving door of no return.

Only time will tell.
