England Crowned Women’s Rugby World Cup Champions

ENGLAND ended their long wait for a third Women’s Rugby World Cup crown with a commanding 33–13 victory over Canada in the final at Twickenham on Saturday.

The triumph, witnessed by a record crowd of 81,885, secured England’s first world title since their 21–9 win over Canada in the 2014 final in Paris.

This latest success extended the Red Roses’ unprecedented winning streak to 33 matches. They have now won 63 of their last 64 games — the only blemish a defeat to New Zealand in the Covid-delayed 2022 final.

For England, it was also a statement win after questions over their temperament, having lost five of the previous six World Cup finals to New Zealand.

Outscoring Canada five tries to two, England lifted the trophy for the third time in their history, adding to their 1994 and 2014 triumphs.
