Former football great calls Fiji FA Gold Card ‘useless’

FORMER Fiji football star Ravuama Madigi has questioned the value of the Fiji Football Association’s (Fiji FA) Gold Card after he was refused entry to a match despite holding one.

Taking to social media, Madigi revealed he was turned away at the gates during the Ba–Navua Extra Super Premier League clash in Ba yesterday.

“Security didn’t allow me through the gates, they kicked me out, saying I needed to buy a ticket,” Madigi said.

“They don’t know the card or who issued it.”

Madigi said the incident left him disappointed, calling the card “useless” despite the Fiji FA’s promotion of it as a symbol of recognition.

Introduced in 2017 under president Rajesh Patel, the Gold Card was designed to honor players who made significant contributions to the sport. Recipients are inducted into the Fiji FA Legends Club and granted lifetime free entry to all Fiji FA events.

Madigi said his treatment showed the card carried little weight in practice.

“Fiji football has been saying a lot about this card, but here I am having to pay for admission,” he lamented.
