BA celebrated throughout the 2025 Inter-District Championship, creating a festive atmosphere befitting their 90-year milestone.
But when it mattered most, Rewa rose to the occasion defeating Ba 1-0 in the grand final to claim the IDC title and ignite their own celebration of glory.
Tears of joy flowed as the Rewa players, carrying their district flag, made a lap around the field to acknowledge their passionate supporters.
Rewa has been Fiji’s most consistent team in recent years, and their crowning moment couldn’t have come at a more fitting venue than the newly upgraded 4R Stadium, Govind Park.
The IDC’s return to Ba after a decade was meant to be a celebration of the hosts, but Rewa spoiled the party with a decisive second-half penalty.
In the 76th minute, Patrick Joseph coolly converted from the spot, sending Ba goalkeeper Alzar Alaam the wrong way for the only goal of the match.
The penalty came after Asivorosi Rabo was brought down inside the box by Peceli Sukabula.
A capacity crowd, largely Ba supporters, fell silent as the drumbeats faded and a steady stream of fans began leaving before the final whistle.
Both teams finished with 10 men after Rewa’s Kavaia Rawaqa and Ba’s Parneel Naidu were shown red cards following double yellow offenses.
It was a fast, open, and exciting contest, though both sides missed several clear scoring chances.
Rewa dominated the individual awards as well:
• Gabriele Matanisiga – Golden Ball (Best Player)
• James Dooro – Golden Glove (Best Goalkeeper)
• John Orobulu – Golden Boot (Top Scorer)
Rewa’s captain dedicated the triumphant win to the fans and the entire squad.
“We played as Rewa, for one another and as a team,” Waranaivalu said after the match, sporting a heavily strapped shoulder.”
He thanked Ba for the wonderful game.
“We leave the rivalry on the field. Outside, we are brothers.
“Let’s all enjoy the evening.”
Rewa’s triumph ended a 15-year wait for IDC glory.
