Sugra Habib Spreads Love Beyond Faith

AT 70, Sugra Habib continues to transcend religious barriers, her compassion and love for humanity lighting hearts much like the festival she joyfully celebrates.

The widow from Mokoi 8 Miles is a familiar face at the annual Navtarang and Radio Sargam FMF Diwali Competition, and this year she proudly walked away with the overall second prize.

Though she is of Muslim faith, Ms. Habib says she has always embraced the spirit of Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights that marks the triumph of light over darkness, of good over evil.

“I live in Mokoi 8 Miles, and when Diwali comes, I make sweets and savouries to share with my friends and relatives,” she said with a warm smile.

“I take part in the competition every year, and I always walk away with a prize  ‘Alhamdulillah’ all praises is due to God. I’m so proud of Sargam and Navtarang.”

Ms. Habib says she is always ready to share her sweets with those who may not have any.

“I will be visiting my friends and neighbours during Diwali, just as they visit us during our festivities,” she added.

Her story is a shining reminder that kindness and togetherness know no boundaries of faith only the shared light of humanity.
