THE Fiji All Stars will meet Japan in the semifinal of the Nations Cup in Richmond, British Columbia, Canada.
It marks only the second semifinal appearance for Fiji, following previous campaign in 2006.
The side fell short of reaching the final.
Fiji booked their place in the last four after edging Iran 6-5 in a dramatic penalty shootout.
Both teams had finished level on points, goals scored and goals conceded, forcing the contest to be decided from the spot.
Veteran midfielder Javid Khan, the most senior player in the squad, believes this team has what it takes to create history and reach the tournament final for the first time since the competition began in 1981.
“We have a great team, youngsters who have what it takes to make the Fijian community proud,” he said.
“I don’t know how long I can continue on, but we have an incredible team that believes in the system and the future of the sport looks bright.
“We need to prioritize the nation’s program and we will do good things.”
Khan also urged fans to come out in numbers and support the team in the semifinal clash against Japan.
