Mo Salah pulls a Panenka in shootout against Australia

MO Salah just produced a moment of magic with a Panenka penalty during Egypt’s clash with Australia.

The legend’s side managed to triumph over ‘The Socceroos’ during a nail-biting shootout following the two sides being held 1-1 after extra time at Dallas Stadium in Arlington, Texas, USA.

Going into the shootout, Egypt needed a hero. And they certainly got one, or four, with every single one of their penalty takers scoring from the spot.

It couldn’t have been a worse start for Australia, with Harry Souttar blasting the ball way over the bar.

Taking advantage of his opponent’s misfortune, Mahmoud Saber smashed the ball into the back of the net.

Despite being at a disadvantage, Jackson Irvine effortlessly converted his effort to remind Egypt that his side wasn’t done yet.

However, that did nothing to dent Ramy Rabia’s confidence, with the defender delivering in abundance.

Showcasing nerves of steel, Awer Mabil sent the goalkeeper the wrong way to keep his team’s dream alive. In a testament to his brilliance, Mo Salah stepped up to the spot to score a magnificent Panenka penalty, lifting the ball down the middle and sending the crowd into raptures.

Then, with the weight of the world on his shoulders, 18-year-old Lucas Herrington bravely opted to take a spotkick. Alas, he hit the bar, giving Hossam Abdelmaguid the chance to put his side into the Last 16, which he did, with a tremendous penalty.

After the shootout, fans took to social media to praise the Egyptian superstar.

One said: “Mo Salah with the coldest Penalty at this World Cup,” while a second added: “Brilliant from Salah! Absolute Egyptian legend.”
