SILVIA Prasad knows no boundaries when it comes to helping others, she is often at the heart of community events.
Whether it is football, children’s activities, fundraisers, social and cultural gatherings, or supporting seniors and residents in care-home facilities.
Her volunteering remains constant.
Mention an event, set a schedule and expect Silvia to be there, with her charm and enthusiasm.
Lessons from early days
Much of what she does today falls back to her upbringing in Nadi, Fiji, and the values instilled in her by her parents.
“My parents’ teachings, love and values are my greatest blessing. They taught me that helping others should come from the heart, without expecting recognition or anything in return,” she said.
“That tradition of giving has continued throughout my family. My family back home in the Fiji, as well as in Canada, have been involved in charitable work for many years.
“We support various organisations, who are in need.”
Driven by Diversity
Silvia said she is all about diversity, and the strength of the community which motivates her to do what she loves.
She has been a part of Fiji men’s and women’s teams fundraisers, social, civic, and cultural events and all without the need for praise, she does it out of good heart.
“Being part of any community event gives me a sense of inner peace and satisfaction. I don’t do it for recognition, I simply feel blessed that I’m able to give something back to the people around me.”
Family support
Silvia said her family is her biggest fan, specifically husband Binesh Prasad who support her endlessly in her public engagements.
“My family continues to be my biggest motivation. I am especially grateful for my husband and children, who have always supported me. My husband is very proud of the way I balance family life and community commitments so smoothly, without hesitation.”
Giving from heart
For Silvia community service has never really felt like work. It has been part of who she is.
She holds good value passed passed down by her parents and carried forward by her my own family.
“I truly believe that giving back is one of life’s greatest blessings. If I can put a smile on someone’s face, lend a helping hand or make a family’s day a little easier, then I feel fulfilled.
Silvia said she is beyond blessed to be able to give something back to the community.
Moving forward, she has only one wish, to continue doing what feels right, for as long as she is alive.
“For me, community is not simply something I participate in. It is a part of who I am, a value I carry from my parents, and a legacy I hope to pass on to my children,” said Silvia.
For Silvia Prasad, community service is not about recognition but more about giving from the heart.
