The Vancouver Whitecaps fans were disappointed ahead of the Friday night game against Real Salt Lake at the BC Place Stadium.
That is because the team had lost three straight games and were not playing their best football.
Even the biggest fan club, the Southsiders made a statement on Twitter, condemning the coaching staff and the management.
But all changed for the better, after Vancouver Whitecaps beat Real Salt Lake 2-0 to end the three-game losing streak before 19283 fans.
It was a victory for the die-hard.
Christian Techera scored his first for the club on a penalty kick in the 75th minute and four minutes later Anthony Blondell pounced in the second goal after some nifty plays from Alphonso Davies, who seemed to be the clutch substitution.
Techera was shown the red card for going skins, ripping his jersey in celebration, he had already copped a yellow for running into RSL goalkeeper Nick Rimando earlier in the game.
“You don’t become a good team overnight, you don’t become a bad team overnight. We’ve been wounded a little bit these past two weeks because of our performances,” said manager Carl Robinson.
“Whenever things go against you, it’s easy to hide, it’s easy to blame. That’s not in my remit — I don’t do it.
“You go back to basics. You go back to hard work, you go back to trying to keep a clean sheet. They had one or two chances, but second half, I thought we were on top throughout, and we deserved the three points. It was a great character showing.”
Captain Kendall Watson said it was nice of the team to step up and play for the coaches and the management.
“It’s always a good feeling to win. We have had lost three straight games and the home win is special”.
Real Salt Lake had majority of the possession in the first half, Vancouver made a few breaks on counter attack but couldn’t finish it, Watson said football has never been perfect, “it never will be”.
“RSL had possession but that’s how the game sometime turn out to be.
“We won and that’s what matters”, Watson said.
