THE Sportsone Sports Personality of the Year 2018 will be revealed on the New Year’s eve.
This year’s nominees are Sapna Deo and Rocket Ismail.
Both nominees are the first Canadian Fijians’ to have won the Provincial Championship in their respective sports, Sapna, rugby and Rocket, football.
The former was also named as the BC High School Girls Rugby Provincials MVP and Senior Female Athlete of the Year.
The 18-year-old is a mirrored athlete of the Yale Secondary School, Abbotsford, BC., and has set her sights on representing Canada in near future.
The latter, is a Fijian footballer who won the Provincial Championship with the Hurricanes FC.
Sportsone’s Riten Gosai said while the victory may have been for a team, it is not for the victory alone that one would be honored, rather it is for the quality of the effort and manner of the striving excellence.
“Since the inaugural award in 2011, Sportsone has awarded one individual who has made a significant contribution to the sport as the athlete or team whose performance that year most embodies the spirit of sportsmanship and achievement”.
