FIJIAN Soccer League of Greater Vancouver president Nadraj Nair will not be seeking a reelection after his term expires in 2020.
Nair, whose service spans over 41 years, off which 8 years as the president, confirmed his decision to Sportsone today.
“I will not seek another term upon the completion of my mandate in 2020”, he said.
“I have been involved with Fijian soccer for over 4 decades and it’s time for me to make space for a deserving candidate and a new president”.
Nair took over the leadership from Hari Gopal in 2011, who was unable to continue because of ill health.
He said the league has also created a new chairman’s position whereby a board member would be given first opportunity to apply, added the successful candidate will serve under his guidance before he relinquishes power in 2020.
“It’s a unique opportunity for board members to step in and get to know the operations, they will be quite abreast with affairs before I leave”.
He said if no one from the current board shows keen interest then club delegates would be given the opportunity to apply.
Nair says footballing fans are quite attuned with the league, ‘that has seen better days.
“Masters division is all we have, unity is what we seek, we have been harping about it for years.
“I think I’ve done my part, 1978 to 2020, my times’ well worth it”.
