Lautoka retain Pacific Cup in New Zealand

Lautoka win back to back Pacific CupLAUTOKA football team successful defended the Pacific Cup title beating Labasa 1-0 in Auckland, New Zealand on Sunday.

Samuela Gavo scored the only goal of the contentious final at Bill McKinley Park.

The Blues played with a lot character and zeal to retain the championship back to back.

Samuela Drudru missed a few good sitters from close range in the early stages of the first half.

Gavo made the amends in the 28th minute when he prod in the only goal that accounted as the game winner.

Labasa, the Inter District and Battle of the Giants champions rallied strong to find the equalizer, piling attacks but the Blues held their ground and defended well.

Lautoka Football Association president Salend Prasad was quick to heap praises on the hard work of the players and the sacrifices made during the tournament.

“Amazing display of football”, said an ecstatic Prasad.

He said the team made Lautoka and its fans world over proud.

“We came with a mission and that was to win the Pacific Cup back to back.

“I’m happy for the team, the management and the fans”.

Lautoka walked away with NZ$10,000, while Labasa received NZ$3000.
