FIJIAN sevens fans are oozing with confidence that Fiji Airways men’s 7s team will bring their Singapore 7s championship game to Vancouver at the weekend.
Fiji beat nemesis New Zealand in the grand finale 28-17.
Fans missed last year’s event after Fiji pulled out of fear of rising Covid -19 cases.
Fijians are ready to show their national pride and cheer for their former compatriots.
Ronald Singh of Burnaby, BC, says with the Singapore 7s win, Fiji needs to replicate its form during the Vancouver 7.
“I’m eyeing field level seat, ready to make noise every time Fiji takes to the field,” said Ronald.
“I will have my Fiji flag to go with my all-Fijian warrior attire.”
Ronald, who has not missed an event since the inaugural tournament in 2016, is convinced Fijian fans will be out in the thousands to support the team.
Justin Ravouvou, who traveled from Victoria Island, said he is in Vancouver to watch the Fijians in action.
“It’s Easter long weekend, I’m giving my family a treat to enjoy the fast paced sevens at home, the B.C. Place will house us over the two days, while Fiji is sure to entertain us.”
Following the win over New Zealand, Fiji claimed its first Series title since Sydney in January 2020, and that has drawn a lot of hype in the community about Fiji winning its back to back championship.
“People who had counted out Fiji winning in Singapore have a change of heart. Now everyone is looking forward to going to support the team,” said Justin.
Fiji last won the Vancouver 7s in 2018, with a 31-22 win over Kenya.
