PLANNING on travelling to Vancouver for the HSBC SVNS Canada Sevens, then bring your best Fijian wardrobe.

The glitter costume competition is back for the 5th consecutive year.

The theme for this year’s competition is ‘Fijian culture and its identity.’

The winner or winners will claim $3000 prize money.

Jessy Singh, the coordinator and sponsor, says Fijians make up the biggest backdrop of raucous fans, and adding an individual and or group that makes the best costume statement wins the prize.

“Fijians are very patriotic when it comes to rugby sevens games.”

“Colour accent wins the parade.

“Looking for that touch of Fiji in all the fans during the Canada Sevens,” said Singh.

The glittery costume competition started in 2021 and has become popular by the year as competitors show off the ‘Fijian’ in them.

Spotters will be in the concourse, stand and the Jumbotron will be used to identify the best by the day.

“The winner or winners will be announced before the finals.”

Singh said while Canada Sevens is a 3-day event, starting Friday, it only draws huge fanfare on the weekend.

“Bring the best in you on the weekend and be mindful of the theme,” added Singh.
